My family nicknamed wretched Covid 19, "The Covis." Almost everyone in the extended family has had "The Covis" in one form or another, nobody has gotten super sick. I was getting cocky because until last Thursday, I had avoided it.
It started with a cough and blew up into a nasty sore throat and headache, blah blah blah. I'm going to survive the Covis; it could have been a whole lot worse. What hit me the hardest was having to be sick without Scott here to take care of me.
I broke my ankle a year ago and Scott waited on me for three solid weeks while I tried to be as non-weight bearing as possible. He brought me drinks, food, meds, and the remote. He was not a natural care giver and I'm smiling as I picture him trying to take as good care of me as I always did of him.
My husband was not a cook. AT ALL. When it was his turn to create something for us to eat t was, without fail, fried chicken with all the fixen's from Food Giant. So, there were times that we ate a lot of fried chicken. I didn't mind. :)
During my ankle recovery time his came up with all kinds of concoctions for meals for me, but by far, the funniest one was mashed potatoes on toast. Leftover Food Giant mashed taters, Dave's Killer multi-seed bread, toasted. And gravy. I took it and ate it with appreciation, but I'm not going to lie, I took pics and texted my daughters and sisters and aunt, and we all had a big laugh over this meal.
What I would have given for a plate of mashed potatoes and toast this week while I've been sick. As I was dealing with being physically pummeled, here came Carmichael with a double punch to the heart. (Carmichael is my grief and he is a jerk) All I could think about was my Tall Man presenting me with his meal creation. And that made me cry.
I wish I could come up with pearls of wisdom that might help anyone else going through the Covis and grief simultaneously, but I've got nothing. The sun did come out today, and my chimes are creating beautiful music as I write this morning.
God's blessings to all and enjoy the mashed potatoes and toast whenever you get the chance.
Oh my goodness ❤️
